ROSENBERG, MOISHE

ROSENBERG, MOISHE (1904–1940). Mexican journalist and Yiddish writer. Born in Yablone, province of Warsaw in Poland. At age 18 he moved to Warsaw, where he took general studies. Together with a group of young people he published a journal in Yiddish. In 1929 Rosenberg immigrated to Mexico and in the next year published the first number of the journal Der Veg, which became one of the most important information channels of the Ashkenazi community in Mexico. In the middle of 1932 he failed to transform his weekly publication into a daily newspaper, though after 1937 he did succeed in publishing it three times a week. In 1929 Rosenberg took part in the organization of the youth Zionist movement Tzeirei Yehuda. His Zionist position was very evident in Der Veg, but he avoided identification with any political party. At the end of 1937 he started the translation and publication of The History of the Jews by heinrich graetz , and until his death he succeeded to publish nine volumes. (Efraim Zadoff (2nd ed.)
